Brametot up for Champion Stakes tilt

Connections say Brametot could run in the Champion Stakes at Ascot after showing up well when finishing fifth in the Arc last Sunday.

The three-year-old colt started the season with a bang when winning both the French 2000 Guineas and the French Derby before faltering in his Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe warm-up.

Jean-Claude Rouget's ace came home a disappointing fifth in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville in August although it was subsequently discovered that Brametot had a back issue.

Having corrected the ailment, Brametot produced a good showing in last weekend's Arc as he finished hot on the heels of Enable.

Racing manager for owners Al Shaqab Racing, Harry Herbert, says he could now go to Ascot for the end of season finale.

He said: "He ran a terrific race and we were really pleased that he jumped well and travelled well through the race.

"We discovered he'd had a sore back. We managed to sort that and he consequently ran much better in the Arc.

"It was a little unfortunate he met a few traffic problems. He wouldn't have beaten the winner, of course, but he may well have been placed if he hadn't had trouble in running at a crucial stage in the straight.

"He's come out of the race well and he's a possible for the Champion Stakes. If Jean-Claude is happy with him, I think we have to look seriously at going to Ascot."
